Six unbeaten as momentum gathers

The Mead 3-1 Ashford United

All strikers start the season look to the day that they reach 20 goals for the campaign.

For Paul Vines, this then was to be that day, for after Solomon Taiwo had nodded the Mead ahead with his first goal for the club, Vinesy's header which doubled the lead just past the midway point of the half saw him hit the 20 goal target yet again in his illustrious career and he duly added the third in stoppage time as he rammed home a great through ball to secure three vital points for the Mead.

It broke the Mead's run of three successive draws but also extended the side's undefeated run to six matches which just about keeps the Mead in the Play Off chase with some huge games coming up in the next few weeks.

With the gaffer missing from the bench for long spells against one of his former clubs due to illness, Ashford arrived at Princes Park without a win since early January and on the back of the 4-1 thumping they handed out to the Mead at the Homelands in November, but in truth never looked like repeating that victory as the Mead despite missing players through injury and suspension were rarely troubled and the points were never really likely to be leaving Princes Park.

Solomon opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes as he headed home unmarked and the home side bossed the game without looking like doubling the lead, until that is Vinesy powered home a great header on 26 minutes that did double the advantage.

The visitors did raise their game after the break but the Mead back line and midfield stood firm and got to within eight minutes of a treasured clean sheet before Grant finally beat Lewis Carey. Even then in the closing stages both sub Richard Pacquette and Vinesy again went close to adding the third before in stoppage time, Vinesy did power home a third to seal a very comfortable afternoon days work - one that would certainly have lifted the manager's spirits...

THE MEAD - Carey, Brand, Adelowo (Laker 90), Taiwo, Avery, Denny, Anidudge (Mendy 45), O'Connor, Vines, Parish (Pacquette 87), Danquah
