Five star Mead see off the Hornets

7 months ago By MIKE GREEN

Stunning win in the sunshine

The Mead moved into second place in the early BOSTIK South table with another impressive performance and a near perfect start.

In front after barely a minute, and four up inside the opening twenty, there really was no way back for the first Saturday league visitors at Princes as the Hornets from Horsham received a real sting in the tail following the Mead rather limp exit from the Kent Cup in midweek. Alex Tenolia again stole the headlines with his second hat-trick in a week, with Scott Kinch and Bode Anidugbe giving scoring support, but this was all about a stunning opening burst giving a near perfect start to a terrific team performance. How different to the Mead's first home game of the season which was edged with almost the final kick of the game against Hythe Town.

Alex's partnership with Tashi-Jay Kwayie seems to be bringing the best out of each other, and it was Alex who duly completed his treble just before the hour courtesy of two terrific crosses from Harvey Brand (a great early birthday present for the Mead full-back) and a magnificent drive that flew into the top corner of the Horsham net after only seven minutes to double the lead that Alex had given the home side in the opening minute as he rammed home Harvey's brilliant ball into the box..

Kinchy then was on hand to bravely head home Ellis Green's corner to make it three in only twelve minutes, and when Bode fired home gloriously from the angle still inside the opening 20 minutes, the game was won with out any doubt.

Full credit to Horsham though who kept at it, but even their most staunchest of followers were resigned to an afternoon in the sizzling Dartford sunshine as the Mead made it five early in the second half when Alex again was on hand to bury the chance that Harvey's fine ball in had created.

It could have been more as Alex himself, Tashi and Tom O'Connor all went close, but in the final analysis a glorious win in glorious sunshine - not a bad way to start a Bank Holiday weekend.

THE MEAD - Carey, Brand, McIntyre, Kinch (Vines), Smith (Mendy), Denny, Green, O'Connor, Teniola (Luchford), Kwayie, Anidugbe
Subs - Flack and Ovenden
