It was all going so well... Another Saturday afternoon and another amazing game in the Mead's season, which sadly this time did not have a happy ending.
Before kick off the Chair, presented Alex Teniola his award for being named winner of the first "Betting.com" Performance of the Month award for August, and for the opening three quarters of the game, it looked like Alex would be celebrating twice, as it was he who opened the scoring as he powered home an early free-kick. The lead was doubled just past the hour when Tobi Ayala reacted quickest after Ellis Green's penalty had been magnificently saved to bundle the ball over the line.
Just as the last quarter began, Greenwich boss Alexander made two changes and within a minute, MacDonald had given Borough hope, before Corne shamed home the equaliser. MacDonald then perhaps somewhat fortuitously gave Borough the lead for the first time eight minutes fro, time before one of those two substitutes Gregory added the fourth in stoppage time.
For the Mead, it really was a question of what might have been and started to go wrong pre-game as Tom O'Connor pulled out of the starting XI - he was replaced at the last minute by Bode Anidugbe - the Gaffer will look for an improved result on Tuesday night when the Mead face the trip down to face Hythe Town looking to complete the first double of the season after Paul Vines' late strike at Princes in August sealed a late 2-1 win. Vinesy, who missed Saturday's game for a family wedding, should be back in the squad for Tuesday giving the Gaffer more options - options that the boss will look to increase this week as he looks to bring in new faces...
