Mead improve but its still just a point!

The Mead 1-1 Corinthian Casuals

Honours even on a bitterly cold Saturday at Princes Park.

For the Mead, this was a much better performance from the midweek derby defeat to Faversham Town, as the home side came agonisingly close to their first win in six League games.

Casuals arrived at Princes second in the table and looking to cut Lewes lead at the top from four points. In the end they were fortunate to come from behind with a very fortuitous equaliser in the final ten minutes. With Tom O’Connor behind most of the home sides good things, it took until the 70th minute for the Mead to edge in front as Danny Parish arrived late at the far post to score his seventh goal for the club in just his eleventh game. Sadly, for the Mead, the recent poor fortune in front of our own net surfaced again as substitute Delgardo-Hibbert was allowed far too much time to literally roll the ball over the line past an exposed Lewis Cary with a little less than ten minutes left to salvage what was an unlikely point for the visitors.

As the temperature dropped, sadly there was little to warm the fans who braved the ever-increasing Arctic conditions in the first half. Tom went close a couple of times and Laurent Mendy shot across the face of goal, before Danny then brilliantly angled a header from Bode Anidugbe’s pin-point cross onto the left post.

Casuals almost went ahead when Uzun’s dipping shot beat Lewis only to crash back off of the home wood work – it was ironic because as the Casuals midfielder unleashed his pile-driver his bench was preparing to substitute him!

Indeed just a few moments later, Danny was on hand to sweep the home side in front and that was followed by chances for both Tom and Bode that tested the Casuals keeper. Then with less than ten minutes to go substitute Delgardo-Hibbert dribbled the ball over the line for the equaliser with possibly his first touch to grab what for long periods had seen an unlikely Casuals point.

In stoppage time, Jake McIntyre was unfortunate with a clumsy tackle that saw him receive a straight red card as he slipped going into an attempted challenge – it just summed up the Mead’s afternoon! There were few pluses for the gaffer on such a cold day, but two were the late introductions into Mead colours of Donovan Simmonds and Charlie Taylor.

THE MEAD – Carey, Anidugbe, McIntyre, Taiwo, Smith, Avery, Duyile (Simmonds), O’Connor, Pacquette (Taylor), Parish (Vines), Mendy
Subs – Kinch & Ovenden
