Mead dent Borough's Play Off charge

Greenwich Borough 1-2 The Mead

Following the disappointing draw at Faversham, the “real” Mead made the short trip to Badgers and put a dent into the hopes of Play Off chasing Greenwich Borough by deservedly leaving with all three points.

In the reverse fixture at Princes, Borough scored late goals to take the points and they again took the lead early in the second half when Dukali fund himself in too much space and with too much time to produce an exquisite lob over Lewis Carey in the Mead goal. The visitors responded magnificently kicking up the slope and after Danny Parish sprinted clear to net his 19th League goal of the season at the second attempt to level, and when Bode Anidugbe drove home twenty minutes from time revenge was the Mead’s.

Going into the game, the mood in the camp wasn’t great after the disappointment at Salters Lane, and what the travelling Mead support got was one of the best performances the side have put in since Christmas and they fully deserved the points.

The Mead started brightly and Greenwich keeper McEntegart was called into early action – doing well to keep out Bode’s early pile-driver. Slowly the home side began to establish themselves with Barham showing why he is the Divisions top scorer but, on this occasion, although he had half chances, Richard Avery and Joe Denny made sure that Lewis wasn’t troubled, as the half developed into tactical battle which was level at the break.

Just four minutes after the break Dukali lobbed the home side into the lead and for a while Borough showed why they have occupied a Play Off position for most of the season. But then courtesy of a quickly taken free kick by Scott Kinch, the Mead showed why they are not in the post season positions is so disappointing by mounting a brilliant comeback.

Kinchy’s free kick released Danny who sprinted away and although McEntegart did well initially, the young Mead striker was not to be denied and the scores were level. Knowing they needed the points to cement their Play Off place, the home side played into the Mead’s hands and the visitors were to take full advantage as Bode drilled home past McEntegart to seal the win.

The Mead go into the last four games of the campaign still focused on a top ten finish and even possibly the one hundred League goals too.
