Blanks all round in the sunshine
Faversham Town 0-0 The Mead
The Mead extended their unbeaten run to four games - three of them without a goal - with this point at the Shepherd Neame Stadium.
But sadly in truth, the 169 crowd could have got more enjoyment this particular Saturday afternoon out of visiting the Town's famous brewery than the end of season fair served up by the two sides. On a tough surface, neither sides really settled and chances both full and half were at an absolute premium.
The Gaffer made one change to the starting side that beat Shoreham in midweek with Richard Pacquette coming into the starting line-up at Ellis Green's expense, but it was the home side who created the first real chance when Dawodu forced Lewis Carey into a great full length save. Indeed from the corner, the Mead stopper pulled yet another top drawer save to magnificently deny Cheek's header. The Mead's best chamce of the half came just before the break, came on a swift break forward out of defence. Danny Parish sprinted forward onto the long ball and was only just beaten to the ball outside the box by Faversham keeper Benham. The ball then fell to Laurent Mendy, who took one touch before sending a low shot a yard past the right post.
The second half sadly didn't improve that much although the sunshine was glorious by this stage and after suffering from the "Beast from the East" and "Beast from the East 2.0" in recent weeks, the change in weather really was welcome!
Paul Vines had a great chance for his 25th goal of the season just past the hour mark but was denied by Benham's legs as the Mead enjoyed their best spell of the game as the game meandered towards its blank conclusion. It was a conclusion that nearly wasn't reached as Dawodu had a golden opportunity in the 90th minute to win the game, but Lewis made another tremendous save to deny the Faversham striker.
The Mead have been involved in some terrific games this season - sadly this wasn't one of them and wont live too long in the memory!
