Mead secure three road points

Chipstead 0-2 The Mead

Goals in each half from Bode Anidugbe and Tashi Jay Kwayie earned the Mead three road points in leafy Surrey.

Arrived with his thread bare squad once again stretched to almost breaking point, the Gaffer was able to welcome back Richard Avery and Tobi Ajala to the starting line up after both missed the midweek Trophy win over AFC Hornchurch. And both players more than played their parts in a Mead win that also saw Lewis Carey make a fine penalty save midway through the second half.

The home side made the better start with both Bell and Dell going close - Bell striking a post and Dell forcing Lewis into a fine save.

The Mead though took the lead with a fine goal as Bode ran onto a fine ball from Harvey Brand and drove the ball low past the keeper into the bottom corner. It could so easily have been two just moments later from an "unlikely" source when Harvey's left-footed shot beat the keeper only to bounce off of the foot of the right post.

The visitors then went close again at the start of the second half when a ball into the box caused problems and Jake McIntyre fired against a post and in the ensuing melee, Tashi had a shot cleared off the line.

Chipstead then had a golden chance to level the scores when following a free-kick, the referee stopped play and awarded the home side a penalty - a decision that left almost everyone in the ground scratching their heads. Up stepped Khan only to see the spot kick brilliantly saved by Lewis, who then excelled moments later again keeping out Adaje's header.

The game then was sealed with a brilliant counter attack from the Mead, as Laurent Mendy sprinted away from another good ball from Bode, and as the home keeper made a fine block to deny Laurent, Tashi following up drilled the ball into the net to guarantee that the points would be following the Mead home around the M25.

THE MEAD - Carey, Brand, McIntyre, Avery, Smith, Denny, Mendy, Kwayie, Teniola (Vines), Ajala, Anidugbe
Subs - Kinch & Ovenden
