Frustrating day at the office

The Mead 2-3 Carshalton Athletic

The Mead's unbeaten League run in November came to a shuddering halt as the thread-bare squad was finally stretched to breaking point.

Ahead early on through Richard Pacquette's brave diving header, the Mead thought it really could be another day to remember when Robins keeper Bishop landed awkwardly trying to reach Richard's shot and was carried off on a stretcher after appearing to pull a muscle in either his side or lower back. Replacing him in goal was nervous sub Cave who looked uncomfortable when the Mead pressed forward, but it was still a huge surprise when ten minutes into stoppage time Miller was allowed too much time and room before brilliantly wrong footing Lewis Carey as he rolled the ball into the bottom corner!

The equaliser gave the visitors a huge lift and only a remarkable right handed save from Lewis to deny Korboa as the wind man got in behind the Mead back line kept the score line level before Lewis made his fourth penalty save of the season just past the hour. Miller was again given too much room as he burst into the box and this time the Mead defence stopped him unfairly only for Cheadel to see his spot kick magnificently turned aside by Lewis.

The home side were then gifted the lead on 65 minutes when following a corner, Richard Avery's shot went straight through the sub keepers hands and gave the Mead the lead for a second time. Yet after seeing the way they had retaken the lead, the home side just couldn't get a shot on target as they peppered the visitors goal as Danny Parish and Bode Anidugbe both had shots that were fractionally too high or the right side of the post.

The Mead were to be made to pay as buoyed by the home sides struggles in front of goal, Carshalton took the points with two quick goals in the final twelve minutes as first substitute Sterling-Parker was on hand to sweep the ball home to level the score at 2-2 before Korboa was left unmarked at the back post to head home what was to prove to be the winner.

It was tough defeat for the Mead's injury and suspension ravaged squad to take, but with fixtures still coming at a ridiculously fast rate, there will be little or no time to lick any wounds before the midweek trip to Molesey...
