Mead leave Casuals Play Off dreams hanging by a thread

The Mead 2-1 Walton Casuals

For the second time this week, the Mead came from behind to inflict defeat on a side chasing the Play Offs.

But whilst Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Greenwich Borough was just a blip for the home side, this win over the Casuals leaves them probably needing favours if they are to now progress into post-season as the race for the final Play Off place reaches its climax.

The Casuals though would have been happy at the break as they lead in the Princes Park sunshine – Kelly finishing smartly after only 12 minutes. But the Gaffer's half time team talk worked wonders for the home side and the game was transformed as the Mead turned the game on its head - levelling through Joe Denny (from a corner) before Laurent Mendy’s header - his 12th goal of the season - won the game for home side as the Mead climbed into the Division's top ten, and go into the last three games of the season (and the "race" for 8th place) in great form with sixteen points taken from the last eighteen.

With Casuals desperate to take advantage of the Mead's midweek win at Greenwich Borough (the Mead's win left Casuals just two points behind Hythe Town in the race for sixth place - the last Play Off position), they were naturally on the front foot first and after only 12 minutes Kelly was on hand to drill the ball past Lewis Carey for his 22nd goal of the season. Try as they might the Mead couldn't get a proper foot-hold in the game as they had in midweek at Greenwich - indeed the first half performance was as poor as it had been at Faversham Town the Saturday before.

But whatever the Gaffer and OB said at half time worked wonders as the Mead from Tuesday night remerged from the dressing rooms for the second half and immediately took the game to the Casuals and just before the hour mark, Joe crashed home just his second of the season as a corner wasn't cleared properly. The visitors now clearly had a problem - not knowing whether to be happy with a point or go for all three. The Mead though were to make their minds up for them as Laurent was on hand to net with just over a quarter of an hour to go, to hand the Play Off chasers a real dent in their chase especially as the gap is now five points after Hythe's win over Chipstead.

For the Mead though, its now six unbeaten and still the opportunity to finish as high as eighth in the table with three games to go - three games that could still see the Mead top 100 League goals in a season; 92 and counting!

THE MEAD - Carey, Brand, McIntyre, Kinch, Avery, Denny, Mendy, Anidugbe, Vines, Parish (Smith), Danquah
Subs - Pacquette, Green & Ovenden
