The Mead travelled deep into the South Downs to kick off our pre season campaign and came away with a 1-0 triumph.
With an early kick-off because of England's World Cup Play Off, both teams took a time to come to terms with a bobbly pitch and the scorching temperatures.
The game was decided with a goal from a Leon Smith long throw with Richard Pacquette touched home with a cushioned header at the back post.
The home side should really have been in front by half time as twice in quick succession, new keeper Will Godmon made stunning saves to keep the home side out - a brilliant low save was followed up by a stunning one to the striker follow up. And when Will was beaten, the woodwork came to the Mead's rescue when a home defender crashed a shot off the underside of the crossbar.
After the break, the Mead looked the better side and scored the game’s only goal around the hour mark and after that it was the visitors who held sway and Bode Anidugbe fired in an effort that whistled just past the post.
The Mead Starting XI - Will Godmon, Joe Denny, John Coker, Leon Smith, Harvey Brand, James Pass, Merrick James-Lewis, Ikechi Eze, Williams Danquah, Richard Pacquette, Chigozie Agwueghan
The replacements – Ade Batua, Bode Anidugbe, Scott Kinch, Tom O’Connor, Jack Godfrey, Dieudonne Laga Langa, Hayden Sedge, Max Ovenden
