Bad day at the office for the Mead

Mead 1-3 Ramsgate

It was a bad day at the office for the Mead as we slipped to our first home League defeat of the season against a Ramsgate side who arrived at Princes Park with just a solitary League win from their opening six games.

Sadly for the home side it was very much a case of after the Lords Mayor Show after the two Emirates FA Cup ties with Billericay Town as whilst the Mead struggled to get out of first gear for much of the early stages, the visitors struck twice early on to give the Mead an uphill battle that they never looked like overcoming!

The visitors were gifted the lead in the opening ten minutes when a terrible clearance fell straight to Chapman, who still had a bit to do, but beat Lewis Carey low to his left in the Mead goal with some aplomb. That was on nine minutes and nine minutes later, Chapman received another huge chunk of good fortune when his shot took a huge deflection off of a defender and as Lewis dived to his right following the original flight of the shot, the ball almost apologetically looped into the opposite corner of the net.

The Mead did rally briefly with Laurent Mendy and Ellis Green both going close, but the Gaffer must have been infuriated that the final ball for the majority of the game just wasn't there.

The home side's luck on the day was summed up just before the break as first Bode Anidugbe hobbled off injured and was replaced by Scott Kinch who himself had hobbled out of the Billericay replay, and then the killer third Ramsgate goal arrived on the stroke of half time when Paxman was on hand at the back post to head home Smith's deep cross.

The second half started brighter for the Mead as Tashi-Jay Kwayie prodded one back for the home side within a few minutes of the restart that was as good as it otherwise got. It was a frustrating day all round and in the end a pointless one but in a period where games come think and fast, there's little time to lick the wounds before a midweek trip to face Phoenix Sports on Tuesday.

THE MEAD - Carey, Brand, Mendy, Anidugbe (Kinch 42), Smith, Denny (Glover 64),  Green, O'Connor, Vines, Kwayie, Luchford (Teniola 64)
Subs: McIntyre, Ovenden
