Mead see out 2017 in style

The Mead 3-0 Molesey

The Mead ended 2017 with a comfortable home win over Molesey.

Goals either side of half-time from Bode Anidugbe and Richard Avery with a late third from Paul Vines means the Mead finish the old year well placed in the table.

After the reverse fixture had finished in a 3-3 draw that could have been anything up to 9-9, this was a more cagey affair that the Mead bossed from start to end, and gave the home side the points that took them into the divisions top ten going into 2018.

The chances came and went early on for the home side – Vinesy could keep down a header from Gabby Adelowo’s great cross; Bode blazed over after Laurent Mendy had been denied by Molesey keeper Allen before Ellis Green went close with a low drive that fizzed into the side netting.

Molesey then caused the home side a real scare as Andrew missed the chance of the half as he drove through the home defence only for Max Ovenden to stand big and bold to deny the midfielder from point blank range – even if the keeper did require a spell of treatment in his lower regions before continuing.

It literally proved to be the wake up the home side needed as Laurent, Bode and Tom O’Connor combined brilliantly before Laurent shot fractionally too high. Williams Danquah then created Ellis some great room down the left – room that Ellis was so very nearly able to exploit the space to the maximum only for Allen to save magnificently away to his right.

The goal that the home side had been threatening however finally arrived on 29 minutes as Bode found himself some space and drilled in a terrific shot that flew low beyond the despairing Allen and into the bottom corner.

The home side could have doubled their lead before the break, but Laurent had a header tipped over the bar in the halves closing stages before Allen made another great save to deny Vinesy’s curler and from that resulting corner Vinesy again just couldn’t force the ball home.
The Mead needed a good start to the second half and duly got it as Avo doubled the lead nine minutes in – sub Danny Parish (who had replaced Tom O’Connor at the break) nodded the ball back into the danger zone and Avo was on hand to head home into the empty net.

Bossing the game brilliantly with Bode and Solomon Taiwo dominating in midfield, Molesey weren’t allowed anywhere near the time or the space that they were in the first game, but the best chance the Mead created Vinesy will probably be asking himself if he should have fed in Danny rather than shooting when well placed.

The visitors nearly got an unlikely foot hold back in the game late on when substitute Sobowale hit the outside of Max’s right post late on from free kick before the Mead finally sealed the points in the last minute when Williams sprinted away down the left and his fabulous centre to the back post was powered home by Vinesy to complete the 3-0 win and the three points.

THE MEAD – Ovenden, Adelowo, Danquah, Taiwo, Smith, Avery, Green (Kinch), Anidugbe, Vines, O’Connor (Parish), Mendy
Subs – Denny, Duyile and Brand
