Mead sign off in style

The Mead 6-2 South Park

The Mead signed off season 2017/2018 in style with six of the very best and for the very first time topped one hundred League goals at this level of the pyramid.

The victory cemented the Mead's place in the League and also extended the unbeaten run at the end of the season to nine games and of course marked the end of the clubs first season at Princes Park.

After a close and tight opening half hour, the Mead exploded into life and were ahead by the break as first Richard Pacquette and then Leon Smith - with his first since August - before three minutes past the hour, club history was made when Laurent Mendy netted the clubs 100th BOSTIK South goal of the season. Top scorer Paul Vines then added a brace before Danny Parish rounded things off in some style as he skipped round the keeper to sign off the season.

The visitors arrived to finish off their own season with four games played in the last eight days and for the first thirty minutes, they more than matched the home side. It was only after Pacq's got on the end of a great ball from the left to net his sixth goal of the season brilliantly steering the ball past Park keeper Merchant. The lead was doubled four minutes from half time when Leon bundled home his second of the season amongst loud appeals for hands which were waved away. For Leon the celebrations were clear after a long personal season for the Mead's skipper.

So into the second half and ninety-nine League goals scored, the question was could the home side top the hundred? The Mead faithful had just thirteen minutes for the answer as Laurent powered home his thirteenth goal of the season. Just as it looked like the home side were set to go off on their holidays job done, South Park got on the scoresheet when Mazzone was on had to score his 26th League goal of the season.

The goal seemed to kick start the Mead again, and they went onto double their haul in thirteen minutes! Vinesy netted his 27th and 28th goals of the season before Danny skipped round the keeper to net his 21st goal in 31 games since joining the club at the start of November. Mazzone though was to have the last word as he rebounded an untidy and disappointing effort in off the unlucky Lewis Carey that ironically sums up the season!

So that was the season that was - and we all go again in August!
